There Goes Rhymin’ Simon
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
There Goes Rhymin’ Simon · This third solo album by Paul Simon was released in May 1973 and contains songs in widely varying styles, from the gospel of Loves Me Like a Rock to the Dixieland of Take Me to the Mardi Gras. The first single, Kodachrome, is named after a Kodak roll of film. The company demanded that the cover state that the name is a trademark. In Great Britain the song could not be played on the BBC because of that brand name, and it was released there as the B-side of Take Me to the Mardi Gras.
The album did better than its predecessor: number 2 on the Billboard 200 and number 4 in Great Britain. Critics praised the blend of gospel, a touch of Jamaican rhythm and an echo of the old grandeur of Simon and Garfunkel. The album received two Grammy nominations, including one for Album of the Year.
