RAM

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

RAM · Ram is the only album credited to Paul and Linda McCartney, and his second solo record after the Beatles. It came out in May 1971 on Apple Records. The basic tracks were recorded in New York in the autumn of 1970, with guitarists David Spinozza and Hugh McCracken and the future Wings drummer Denny Seiwell. Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey is built from several unfinished songs, in the spirit of the medley on Abbey Road.

The record appeared in the middle of the feud with the other Beatles. John Lennon saw veiled digs in Too Many People and replied with How Do You Sleep?. Critics were negative on release, but the record topped the charts in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Canada. Appreciation later grew: AllMusic called the album in retrospect the first indie pop record.
