From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
My Bloody Valentine released m b v themselves on 2 February 2013, more than twenty years after Loveless. Kevin Shields produced it. The recording began in 1996 and was half finished when the band split up in 1997. In 2006, after the reunion, Shields picked it up again and combined the old material with new recordings. The final vocals, bass and drums followed in 2011 and 2012. She Found Now was the only track recorded entirely from scratch, in 2012. The album was recorded and mixed on analogue equipment, on tape and without digital editing.
The sound is shoegaze and noise pop. Shields wanted less to build another world as on Loveless and more to sound like Isn't Anything, rawer and sprawling. The Beach Boys and their unfinished album Smile were an influence: he deliberately did not write in terms of beginning, middle and end. The album received rave reviews and appeared on many lists for 2013.
