Too Fast for Love

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Too Fast for Love · This debut was released in November 1981 in a first pressing of nine hundred copies on the band's own label, Leathür Records. The first recordings were made half a year after the first gig at the Starwood in Hollywood. The band then signed with Elektra. The album was remixed under the supervision of Roy Thomas Baker and partly re-recorded. That version from August 1982, with a different running order, became the standard version. Stick to Your Guns was dropped from it.

The first reviews were mixed. Many critics found the music derivative and criticised the playing and the singing, although some did like the speed and the rawness. Later assessments were considerably more favourable. AllMusic wrote that the band sounds like a bar band making up for what it lacks in technique with enthusiasm. In the United States the record reached number 77 and later went platinum after all.

Listening

Listening tip. In Live Wire, listen to the fast tempo and the raw, unpolished playing of the band.
