...Baby One More Time

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Song

Max Martin first wrote ...Baby One More Time for the Backstreet Boys and the American group TLC, who both turned it down. It then went to sixteen-year-old Britney Spears, and it was released in October 1998. By hit me, Martin probably meant something like call me one more time. The song became a worldwide hit. Denniz PoP, his mentor at Cheiron, did not live to see its success: he died in August 1998.

Listening

Listening tip. The song opens with three heavy piano notes and then straight into the voice: Oh baby, baby. The hook is there within the first seconds.
