Mister Heartbreak

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Mister Heartbreak is the second studio album by Laurie Anderson, released on 14 February 1984 by Warner Bros. Records. She wanted to make a record that could exist without images, and used the Synclavier on every track. Besides the distorted voice of her first album, she also sings normally here. The guitarist Adrian Belew of King Crimson played on four tracks; in Sharkey's Day he opted for an aggressive sound with a fuzz pedal. Peter Gabriel co-wrote and sang on Excellent Birds, and William S. Burroughs spoke the text of Sharkey's Night. Gravity's Angel borrows imagery from the novel Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon.

Billboard called it an intriguing collection of songs that uncompromisingly links new music and the avant-garde.
