Testifying

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Testifying is the debut album by the jazz organist Larry Young and was recorded in 1960. It was released on the New Jazz label. Besides the organ, we hear Joe Holiday on tenor saxophone, Thornel Schwartz on guitar and Jimmie Smith on drums.

The programme consists of seven tracks. The organist wrote the title composition himself. The other pieces are the work of others, including Rodgers and Hart, Hammerstein and Romberg, J.J. Johnson and Joe Holiday. Standards such as Falling in Love With Love stand alongside jazz pieces such as Wee Dot. AllMusic gave the album three stars and found it easy to recommend to lovers of jazz organ.
