Out Here on My Own

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Out Here on My Own is the debut album by Lamont Dozier, released by ABC. McKinley Jackson produced the record. Gene Page, H.B. Barnum and Paul Riser wrote the arrangements, and the studio line-up included Ray Parker Jr. on bass and guitar, the guitarists Wah Wah Watson and David T. Walker, the percussionist King Errisson and a large group of string and wind players.

According to Ron Wynn of AllMusic, the album is among the better combinations of social commentary and urgent soul singing of its day. The singles became hits. Trying To Hold On To My Woman reached number 4 on the American R&B chart and number 15 on the pop chart in 1974. Fish Ain't Bitin' reached number 26 on the Hot 100 and likewise number 4 on the R&B chart.
