Wild and Peaceful
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Wild and Peaceful is the fourth studio album by the funk band Kool & the Gang and marked their commercial breakthrough. The group produced and arranged the record themselves and recorded it at Mediasound Studios in New York. The album yielded the band's first three Top 10 singles: Funky Stuff, Jungle Boogie and Hollywood Swinging. The magazine Record World praised Funky Stuff as funk and fun, with plenty of percussion and whistles.
The album was released in 1973 and reached number 6 on the Billboard R&B chart, where it stayed for 36 weeks. It was also the group's first album in the Top 40 of the pop chart, at number 33. Jungle Boogie and Hollywood Swinging each sold more than a million copies, and the record itself was certified gold.
