Kojiki

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Kojiki is an album by the new age musician Kitaro from 1990. It is based on the Kojiki, a classic Japanese book of ancient history and legends. The record received a Grammy nomination in 1990.

The sound combines his characteristic keyboards and flute sounds with the string orchestra of the Skywalker Symphony. The seven tracks bear Japanese titles, such as Hajimari, Orochi and Matsuri. Matsuri later left traces in the 1997 Bollywood film Gupt: according to the article about the record, the flute music and the prelude of one of its songs were partly influenced by this piece.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen in Matsuri to the flute and the keyboards. Notice how the strings add colour to them.
