Soul Meeting

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Soul Meeting is the sixth album by the saxophonist King Curtis and was released in 1960 by Prestige. He plays tenor saxophone, surrounded by a remarkable company: Nat Adderley on trumpet and cornet, Wynton Kelly on piano, Sam Jones and Paul Chambers on bass, and Belton Evans and Oliver Jackson on drums. Rudy Van Gelder recorded the album.

The album has six long tracks of a little over five to a little over seven minutes. King Curtis wrote the title track Soul Meeting, Lazy Soul and Do You Have Soul Now? himself. In addition, the band plays Jeep's Blues by Duke Ellington and Johnny Hodges, the ballad All the Way and Cole Porter's What Is This Thing Called Love. The long tracks give the soloists all the space they need.
