One of the Boys

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

One of the Boys is Katy Perry's second studio album and the first under that name. Capitol Records released it on 17 June 2008. Perry had been working on it since she was eighteen, with Greg Wells, Dr. Luke, Glen Ballard, Dave Stewart and Butch Walker, among others, as producers. The sessions ran through fifteen studios in Los Angeles, New York, Surrey and Glasgow. Her earlier record Katy Hudson (2001) was a Christian rock album.

The album is pop music with rock and power pop influences. Four singles entered the American Hot 100: "I Kissed a Girl" reached number 1, "Hot n Cold" number 3, "Waking Up in Vegas" number 9 and "Thinking of You" number 29. The album debuted at number 9 on the Billboard 200 and is certified triple platinum in the United States. Critical reception was mixed: Metacritic gives it 47 out of 100.
