The Process
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
The Process, from 2014, was made by a trio: pianist Jon Batiste, drummer Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and bassist and producer Bill Laswell. They recorded the album in 2013 as film music for a film that had yet to be written and that never materialised.
The pianist also plays electric piano, Hammond organ, electronic keyboards and percussion. Laswell provides bass, guitar and electronics, and Smith drums and percussion. The trio received guests. Tunde Adebimpe of TV on the Radio sings on Drop Away, rapper Killah Priest on Turn On the Light / Ascent and Toshinori Kondo plays trumpet on Haunted. The saxophonist and flautist Peter Apfelbaum can also be heard, including on The Drift. The tracks have titles such as B1, B2 and B3, and between those short titles are the longer pieces.
