Unfinished Music No. 1: Two Virgins

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Unfinished Music No. 1: Two Virgins is the debut of John Lennon and Yoko Ono as a duo, and the first of three experimental albums on Apple Records. It came about in a single night in Lennon's home studio in Kenwood, while his wife Cynthia was on holiday in Greece. The recordings consist mainly of tape loops, while he tries out various instruments and sound effects and Ono sings freely over them.

Better known than the music is the cover, which shows the couple naked. EMI refused to distribute the album, so it went into the shops in a brown paper bag, via Track in the United Kingdom and Tetragrammaton in the United States. Critics and public wanted nothing to do with it. In the US it reached number 124; in the United Kingdom it did not chart.
