Static Prevails
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Static Prevails is the second studio album by the American band Jimmy Eat World and was released on 23 July 1996 on Capitol Records. After their 1994 debut, the band signed to the label in 1995, partly thanks to a split single with Christie Front Drive. The bassist Mitchel Porter had left to become a missionary, and Rick Burch took his place. The recording took place at Sound City in Los Angeles and Big Fish in Encinitas, with Wes Kidd, Mark Trombino and the band as producers.
The group left skate punk and pop punk behind and chose a more aggressive sound, somewhere between post-hardcore, emo and punk. Digits was the first track in that new style. Call It in the Air was the first single and Rockstar received a music video. The reviews were mixed, but the record is now regarded as a benchmark for the second wave of emo.
