Desert Winds
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
The saxophonist Illinois Jacquet recorded Desert Winds in 1964 with the guitarist Kenny Burrell. The album was released on Argo. Jacquet plays tenor and alto saxophone and Burrell electric guitar. Also playing are Tommy Flanagan on piano, Wendell Marshall on bass, Ray Lucas on drums and Willie Rodriguez on congas.
The repertoire mixes standards and original work: When My Dreamboat Comes Home, Star Eyes, Lester Leaps In by Lester Young and Blues for the Early Bird by Jacquet himself. The title song is by Esmond Edwards. AllMusic gave the album three and a half stars and called it underrated and modest, full of easy charm, without dazzling solos but with plenty of calm, lyrical moments.
