Same Place the Fly Got Smashed
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Same Place the Fly Got Smashed is Guided by Voices' fourth album and continues the beginning of the band's lo-fi period. The production sounds clearly less clear and sharp than on the earlier records. Robert Pollard calls it a concept album with a continuous story about an alcoholic who commits a murder and is ultimately executed for it.
Airshow '88 begins with a spoken fragment from the 1990 television film Shattered Dreams. Pollard counts this album among his best work and calls the lyrics of Pendulum the finest he ever wrote. Alongside him, Jim Pollard plays guitar, Greg Demos bass and Don Thrasher drums.
