Computer Games

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Computer Games came out on 5 November 1982 on Capitol Records. Formally it is George Clinton's first solo record, but almost the same musicians played on it as on recent Parliament and Funkadelic records, the groups he had disbanded in 1981. The album came about after a period of financial and personal problems. According to Trouser Press, the title nods to the emerging techno-funk: Clinton did not reject the new technology but applied it in his own way.

Loopzilla reached the top twenty of the R&B chart, and then Atomic Dog went to number 1 on the same chart. The record made Clinton briefly popular again, before P-Funk ran into new legal problems and little support from the label in the mid-1980s. Slant Magazine placed the album at number 97 among the best albums of the 1980s.
