Spraakwater

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Song

In 1995 Extince, from Oosterhout in Brabant, had a top 10 hit with Spraakwater, with samples from De Fabeltjeskrant. It was the first Dutch-language hip hop record to become a big hit. Extince rapped playfully and proudly in Dutch, and showed that the language rhymes perfectly well. After the raw Amsterdam dialect of Osdorp Posse, a more cheerful side was now added. More and more young people began rapping in Dutch themselves.

Listening

Listening tip. At the start, hear the voice of Meneer de Uil (Mr Owl) from De Fabeltjeskrant, and then how Extince plays with the sound of the Dutch words.
