Queen of Soul

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Queen of Soul is Etta James's fifth studio album. It was released at the end of 1964 on Argo Records and collected the singles she had released that year. It was her first studio album in two years, since Etta James Top Ten. Five arrangers worked on it: Riley Hampton, Bert Keyes, Cliff Parman, Al Pokonka and Phil Wright.

The record has ten tracks, five per side of the LP. The material comes from various writers, including Irma Thomas. Two tracks made the charts: Baby What You Want Me to Do and Loving You More Every Day. They entered the rhythm and blues chart and the Billboard Pop Chart. The music platform Allmusic gave the album four out of five stars.
