That’s the Way of the World

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

That’s the Way of the World · That's the Way of the World was released on 3 March 1975 on Columbia Records and was at the same time the soundtrack of a film of the same name. It was Earth, Wind & Fire's sixth studio album. Bandleader Maurice White produced it together with Charles Stepney, and the recording and mixing took nine months.

The album brings together funk, African influences, jazz and gentle ballads. Shining Star reached number 1 on the American singles chart and won a Grammy. The title song also did well on the charts, and on Africano you can hear what the African side of the group sounds like. The album spent three weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 and in 2004 was given a place in the Grammy Hall of Fame. One reviewer called it a short, focused record on which White brought together all the elements of the group.
