Stay Awhile / I Only Want to Be With You

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Stay Awhile / I Only Want to Be With You · This was Dusty Springfield's first album in America, released in 1964 by the American arm of Philips. About three months earlier her debut A Girl Called Dusty had come out in England. The American record was in effect a compilation: tracks from that album, her first two singles and other work. The American company preferred to put the hits on an album, such as I Only Want to Be with You, Stay Awhile and Wishin' and Hopin'.

Her next four American records were also assembled in this way. That is said to have contributed to her leaving Philips in America in 1968 and choosing Atlantic. Some fans therefore do not count these records among her real albums, but they do appear in her official discography.
