Communiqué
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Communiqué is Dire Straits' second album and was released on 5 June 1979, eight months after the debut. After the first tour, the band went into the studio in November and December 1978, at Compass Point Studios in the Bahamas. The experienced producers Jerry Wexler and Barry Beckett led the sessions and the mix followed in January 1979 at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Alabama. Beckett also played keyboards on some of the nine songs. It was the last album with David Knopfler and with the original line-up.
Lady Writer was the first single. The album reached number five in the United Kingdom and topped the chart in Germany. Reactions were divided: one reviewer spoke of a competent record, another praised the production on Once Upon a Time in the West, and AllMusic found it a copy of the debut with weaker material.
