Volume 3
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Curtis Fuller, Volume 3 was recorded on 1 December 1957, but Blue Note did not release the album until the end of 1960. The trombonist plays in a quintet with trumpeter Art Farmer, pianist Sonny Clark, bassist George Tucker and drummer Louis Hayes. Alfred Lion produced and Rudy Van Gelder recorded and mastered. Francis Wolff took the photographs and Nat Hentoff wrote the liner notes.
The album has six tracks, including Little Messenger, Quantrale and Carvon. AllMusic called it Fuller's third record as a leader for Blue Note and stronger than its predecessors, above all because of his writing talent. According to the reviewer it made Fuller a serious, mature voice on his instrument.
