The Space Between Us
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
The Space Between Us is Craig Armstrong's debut under his own name and was released on Melankolic Records. Armstrong had earlier contributed to Protection by Massive Attack, and you can hear it. The opening track Weather Storm is a reworking of the track of the same title on that record, and Sly II is a reworking of Sly. Both versions of Weather Storm use a phrase from Autumnal, a 1972 work by Anthony Phillips.
Well-known guests take part on the album. Elizabeth Fraser of the Cocteau Twins sings on This Love and Paul Buchanan of The Blue Nile on Let's Go Out Tonight, a reworking of his own band's song. Balcony Scene is a reworking of Time Stands Still from the music for the 1996 film Romeo + Juliet, with elements of Kissing You by Des'ree and a quotation from the film.
