The Resurrection
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
The Resurrection · Resurrection was released on 4 October 1994 on Relativity Records and was the second album by the rapper Common Sense. No I.D. produced most of it, as on the 1992 debut Can I Borrow a Dollar? It is the last album under his full artist name: afterwards he dropped Sense. The record is divided into two parts, the East Side of Stony and the West Side of Stony, after the street in Chicago where he grew up. Short interludes form a loose narrative about daily life on the South Side.
In I Used to Love H.E.R. he describes hip hop as a woman who goes astray through materialism. The song brought him to the attention of fans and critics, but also led to a feud with Ice Cube. The album received praise, although it sold poorly, and is often regarded as a classic. Rolling Stone placed it alongside Illmatic and Ready to Die.
