Dance to the Drums Again

Dance to the Drums Again · This is the seventh studio album by the American jazz singer Cassandra Wilson. It was released in 1992 on Columbia. She produced it herself, together with guitarist Jean-Paul Bourelly, with whom she also wrote most of the songs. Pianist James Weidman and bassist Kevin Bruce Harris play on several tracks, alongside various drummers and percussionists. On Amazing Grace she sings a well-known song by John Newton, accompanying herself on piano.

Scott Yanow wrote in AllMusic that with this record Wilson was at a crossroads in her career. A reviewer for New York magazine thought the album benefits greatly from the strength of its material, which comes largely from Wilson and Bourelly.
