Another Green World
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Another Green World · This third solo album by Brian Eno was recorded in July and August 1975 at Island Studios in London. He went into the studio without having written or prepared anything, and the first four days yielded nothing. He then sought support in his Oblique Strategies, cards with instructions meant to lead to new ideas. Guest musicians such as Robert Fripp, Phil Collins and John Cale played on it, but on seven tracks he plays everything himself.
The record forms a transition from his rock songs to the ambient work of the late seventies. Only five of the fourteen tracks have vocals. The instrumental pieces are melodic and rhythmic, and have titles such as In Dark Trees and The Big Ship. On St. Elmo's Fire, Fripp improvised a fast guitar solo, meant as an imitation of an electrical charge. The record charted almost nowhere in 1975, but was reviewed favourably and later appears on lists of the best albums of the seventies.
