Tempest
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Tempest · Bob Dylan recorded this album between January and March 2012 at Groove Masters Studios in Santa Monica, Jackson Browne's studio. He produced it himself, under the pseudonym Jack Frost. His own touring band played on it, joined by David Hidalgo of Los Lobos, who contributed accordion and tres. Scott Litt was the engineer and recorded the band with old omnidirectional microphones in a single room. All the songs are by Dylan himself, except Duquesne Whistle, which he wrote with Robert Hunter.
It sounds traditional and the lyrics are dark. Duquesne Whistle and Early Roman Kings were released as singles. The video for Duquesne Whistle at first looks like a light comedy in the style of Charlie Chaplin, but according to Rolling Stone it takes a shockingly dark turn. Because of the title, some thought this would be his last album, after Shakespeare's last play, but Dylan dismissed that. Critics responded with praise.
