Paranoid
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Paranoid · After the success of the debut, Black Sabbath went back into the studio in June 1970, four months later, with producer Rodger Bain. The recordings at Regent Sound and Island Studios in London were finished in a few days. Many tracks had arisen from jam sessions on stage, including during a six-week stay at a club in Zürich. The title track came about as an afterthought: there were too few songs, and Tony Iommi played the guitar riff in some twenty minutes. It became a single and reached fourth place in the United Kingdom.
War Pigs was first meant to be called Walpurgis, but Geezer Butler's lyrics target warmongers. On Planet Caravan, Ozzy Osbourne sings through a Leslie speaker. The album is regarded as one of the most influential metal albums. In 2017 Rolling Stone placed it first on its list of the best metal albums.
