Signs of Life

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Signs of Life is Billy Squier's fourth studio album. For the first time he did not work with Reinhold Mack, who had produced Don't Say No and Emotions in Motion. In his place came Jim Steinman, known as Meat Loaf's songwriter. The production was rich, with many synthesizers, and the songs sounded poppier. Larry Fast played synthesizers and Brian May added a guitar solo to (Another) 1984.

Rock Me Tonite became the singer's highest-charting pop single and reached the top of the Mainstream Rock chart. The accompanying video became notorious and is often seen as one of the reasons for his declining popularity. The record divided audiences and critics at the time, but is today regarded as one of his best works.
