That’s the Way God Planned It

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

That’s the Way God Planned It · That's the Way God Planned It is Billy Preston's fourth studio album and was released in August 1969 on Apple Records. It came after his collaboration with the Beatles on the single Get Back and was produced by George Harrison. Harrison plays guitar, Moog and sitar. Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Ginger Baker and Doris Troy also contribute. The title song became a hit in England as a single.

Record Collector wrote that the album presents the organist as a versatile, spiritually compelling singer-songwriter. David Fricke placed it in Rolling Stone among the five best Apple albums without the Beatles and called the rest of the record solid soul with church influences, with covers of Bob Dylan and W.C. Handy. According to him, the singer later had bigger hits, but never a better one than the title song.
