Imagination

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Imagination is an album that Billy Eckstine recorded in 1958 and that was released on the EmArcy label. It contains well-known songs from the American songbook tradition, such as I Got a Right to Sing the Blues by Harold Arlen and Ted Koehler, Love Is Just around the Corner by Lewis Gensler and Leo Robin and the title song by Jimmy Van Heusen and Johnny Burke.

What a Little Moonlight Can Do, Lullaby of the Leaves, I Cover the Waterfront and I Wished on the Moon are also on the record, as is That's All by Alan Brandt and Bob Haymes. It is thus not an album of new material, but a compilation of existing songs by a variety of composers. The album was released in 1958, and the title song sits in the middle of the track list.

Listening tip. Listen to Imagination and pay particular attention to the voice: how does the singer sound in this quiet song, and what role does the accompaniment around him play?
