+’Justments

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

+’Justments · Bill Withers's third album was released on 6 April 1974 on Sussex Records. On the sleeve he writes himself why the record has that title: life gives us the responsibility of furnishing our own psyche, we make mistakes and then have to adjust, what the old people back home called justments. Withers produced the record together with the bassist Melvin Dunlap and the drummer James Gadson.

The single The Same Love That Made Me Laugh reached fiftieth place in the United States in the spring of 1974. José Feliciano plays guitar on Can We Pretend and congas on Railroad Man. Withers had earlier contributed to Compartments, a 1973 album by Feliciano. Legal disputes with Sussex then prevented new recording sessions, until Columbia signed him a year later. The record itself only came out on CD in 2010.
