Conte de l’incroyable amour
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Conte de l’incroyable amour · This is the second album by the Tunisian oud player Anouar Brahem. He recorded it in October 1991 and it was released on ECM in May 1992. The title means Tale of an Incredible Love.
It is a quartet. Besides the oud we hear two wind players from Turkey, Barbaros Erköse on clarinet and Kudsi Erguner on ney, and percussionist Lassad Hosni on bendir and darbouka. That line-up gives the music a colour of its own, in which the strings of the oud and the breath of the wind instruments complement each other. The album opens with Étincelles and closes with a piece for ECM founder Manfred Eicher. AllMusic's review gave three stars and wrote that the record reveals more and more special moments on repeated listening.
