Bewitched

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Bewitched is the second and last album by the English guitarists Andy Summers and Robert Fripp, released in 1984 by A&M Records. Like its predecessor I Advance Masked, it is instrumental, but it sounds more pop-oriented. Summers said it was about two guitarists who meet on another mountain and learn to work together. The only single, Parade, received a video but did not reach the charts.

The record uses electronic drums and many overdubs. Critics were divided. Two authors felt that the synthesizers displaced the guitar playing, while Greg Prato of AllMusic praised the strong guitar work and pointed to the 7/4 rhythm in Maquillage. In 2024 Summers called the album ahead of its time.
