Transform
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Transform was released in September 2001 on the German label Mille Plateaux and is the second studio album by Alva Noto, the alias of Carsten Nicolai. In 2008 the label Raster-Noton reissued the record. The album is the first part of the Transall series, which also consists of the EPs Transrapid, Transspray and Transvision, made between 2001 and 2006.
The music consists of tightly organised electronic sounds in which rhythm plays the leading role. Reviewer Mark Richard-San wrote in Pitchfork that Nicolai's sense of rhythm is the first thing that stands out. He found the record successful within its own limits, but missed a spark that would make it great: no moments when you stop and listen more closely. For him, Transform was simply good.
