Back Up Train
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Back Up Train is the debut album of the American soul singer Al Green. It was released in 1967 on Hot Line Records, a label run by his school friends Palmer James and Curtis Rodgers, before he signed with Hi Records. On the cover his name is spelled Greene, although that is actually the correct spelling. The title song had already been released as a single in January 1967, under the band name Al Greene and The Soul Mates.
The album later got a second life. In 1972 it was reissued on Bell Records, and a single of Guilty became a Top 30 R&B hit. In 1999 a reissue followed on Arista. In 2005 Legacy released the album under its original title Back Up Train, with the 1967 cover.
