Let There Be Rock
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Let There Be Rock · At the end of 1976 AC/DC were in a slump. Things were going well in London and Europe, but Atlantic Records in America did not think the album Dirty Deeds was good enough and threatened to drop the band. The group responded combatively. Angus Young recounted that his brother George, who produced together with Harry Vanda, asked what kind of album they wanted to make, and that the answer was: lots of guitar riffs, after all that touring. The result came out in March 1977 in Australasia. In July an adapted international version followed, with the later famous logo by Gerard Huerta.
It was the last album with bassist Mark Evans. Critics were very positive. AllMusic called it sweaty, dirty rock and one of the best records of the Bon Scott era. In 2001 Q included it among the heaviest albums ever. According to one biographer, it made the band an album band.
