Back in Black
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Back in Black was released on 25 July 1980 and was AC/DC's seventh studio album. After the breakthrough with Highway to Hell, a follow-up was planned, but in February 1980 singer Bon Scott died after a night out in London. The remaining members considered stopping, but carried on and chose Brian Johnson, formerly the singer of Geordie, as their new frontman. Johnson wrote the album together with the brothers Angus and Malcolm Young. Producer Robert John Lange, who had also produced Highway to Hell, recorded it in seven weeks in the Bahamas.
The cover is completely black, as a sign of mourning for Scott. The album was an enormous success with the public and critics, and was followed by a year-long world tour that made the band one of the most popular of the early 1980s. Since then it has appeared on countless lists of the best albums.
