From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist
Zeami Motokiyo appeared on stage as a child in the troupe of his father Kan'ami and received the protection of the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu in 1374. He wrote plays that are still performed, such as Izutsu and Atsumori, and in his treatise Fūshikaden he explained how a performance builds tension according to jo-ha-kyū: slow, then faster, then fast. In 1434 he was banished to the island of Sado. His years of birth and death are approximate.
