Riem de Wolff
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist
Riem de Wolff was born in 1943 in Depok on Java and died in 2017 in Blaricum. He was an Indo-Dutch singer and guitarist. In 1949 he came to the Netherlands with his older brother Ruud, where the family settled in Driebergen-Rijsenburg. The two of them grew up there, far from the place where they were born.
Music and breakthrough
Together the brothers formed the duo The Blue Diamonds. Riem sang and played guitar, while Ruud was the other half of the group. In this way a duo with Indo roots emerged in Dutch pop music. The duo went on making records and performing until Ruud's death in December 2000.
Influence
Afterwards Riem continued his career alone and went on performing solo. In 2008 he had a part in the Dutch film Ver van Familie, together with, among others, Anneke Grönloh, another singer with Indo roots. In 2005 he was made a knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau. The duo stands for the Indo contribution to Dutch pop history.
