Naftule Brandwein
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist
Naftule Brandwein came from Galicia and emigrated to New York around 1909, where at first he played as an anonymous soloist in Abe Schwartz's band. From 1922 he made records under his own name, including for Victor. His clarinet playing was wild and full of trills, glides and leaps, with influences from Greek, Turkish and Roma music. On stage he was an exuberant showman.
