Fivio Foreign

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist

Fivio Foreign is the stage name of Maxie Lee Ryles III, an American rapper from Brooklyn, born on 29 March 1990. He grew up in East Flatbush. In 2011 he began rapping under the name Lite Fivio; two years later he changed it to Fivio Foreign and founded the collective 800 Foreign Side with friends.

Music and breakthrough

His breakthrough came in 2019 with the single Big Drip, which was certified platinum by the RIAA and led to a remix with Lil Baby and Quavo. The track appears on the EPs Pain and Love from 2019 and 800 B.C. from 2020. At the end of 2019 he signed to Mase's label, RichFish Records. In 2020 he entered the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time with guest appearances on Demons by Drake and Zoo York by Lil Tjay, and he was included in the XXL Freshman Class. He also worked with Kanye West, on Off the Grid from 2021 among others. His debut album B.I.B.L.E. appeared in 2022, followed by Pain & Love 2 in 2024 and Still Standing in 2026.

Influence

Fivio Foreign belongs to the New York drill scene, a style with hard, dark beats and a raw, shouted delivery. He showed that Brooklyn drill, which was on the rise in 2019 and 2020, could reach a large audience outside the city too. With his short, catchy lines he became a face of that generation.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Big Drip and notice the rhythm of the voice: Fivio raps in short, punchy phrases over a dark, heavy beat. Which line sticks in your head after one listen?
