Standards werd op 13 januari 1967 opgenomen, maar verscheen pas in 1998 op Blue Note. Lee Morgan speelt trompet in een grote bezetting: Wayne Shorter op tenorsaxofoon, James Spaulding op altsaxofoon en fluit, Pepper Adams op baritonsaxofoon, Herbie Hancock op piano, Ron Carter op bas en Mickey Roker op drums. Duke Pearson schreef de arrangementen.

Op het programma staan This Is the Life, God Bless the Child, Blue Gardenia, A Lot of Livin' to Do, Somewhere en If I Were a Carpenter, plus nog een alternatieve take van Blue Gardenia. Scott Yanow merkte op AllMusic op dat veel nummers recenter waren dan je bij standards zou verwachten. Hij vond dat de muzikanten goed spelen, maar dat er niets bijzonder opwindends gebeurt. Het was volgens hem geen groot verlies dat de opname zo lang in de kluis bleef.
