Leonard Rosenman

Leonard Rosenman werd in 1924 in New York geboren en studeerde compositie bij onder anderen Arnold Schönberg en Roger Sessions. Hij gaf pianoles aan de jonge James Dean, en via Dean vroeg regisseur Elia Kazan hem voor East of Eden (1955). Rosenman bracht het modernisme naar de Hollywoodfilm. In The Cobweb (1955) gebruikte hij als een van de eersten twaalftoonsmuziek in een grote studiofilm. Rebel Without a Cause (1955) heeft scherpe dissonanten en ritmes die de onrust van jongeren laten horen. Later schreef hij Fantastic Voyage (1966). Voor Barry Lyndon (1975) van Stanley Kubrick bewerkte hij bestaande muziek van onder anderen Händel en Schubert, en won hij een Oscar.
