BBC Philharmonic & Rumon Gamba · Het BBC Philharmonic is een Brits omroeporkest, een van de vijf radio-orkesten van de BBC. Het is gevestigd in MediaCityUK in Salford en speelt vooral in de Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. De wortels liggen in 1922, toen het 2ZY Orchestra werd opgericht voor een radiozender in Manchester. Dat orkest speelde als eerste op de radio werken van Elgar en Holst. Vanaf 1934 heette het BBC Northern Orchestra, en na een naamswijziging en uitbreiding in 1982 kreeg het zijn huidige naam.

Het orkest speelt op de radio en in de concertzaal, maar heeft ook meer dan honderdvijftig opnamen gemaakt, onder meer een reeks Britse filmmuziek bij het label Chandos. Daar sluiten de fragmenten uit de cursus bij aan: de muziek bij Passport to Pimlico, The Lavender Hill Mob en Scott of the Antarctic. Het orkest werkte ook samen met popbands zoals The xx en The 1975 voor symfonische projecten op BBC Radio 1. Zo staat het op de grens van klassiek, filmmuziek en pop.
