Other Voices
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Other Voices is the seventh studio album by the Doors and was released in October 1971 on Elektra Records. It was the first album after the death of singer Jim Morrison in July of that year. After the success of L.A. Woman, the three remaining members had begun recording while Morrison was staying in Paris. He died before he could return, and the others decided to carry on. Keyboardist Ray Manzarek and guitarist Robby Krieger shared the lead vocals.
Krieger later said that it was a hard time and that perhaps they should not have released the record so quickly, but that they did not sit around mourning and that Elektra wanted them to carry on. According to Jac Holzman the album sold about 300,000 copies. Record World called the single Tightrope Ride a smashing rocker that showed that the band could rock with other voices too. The record did not appear on CD until 2006.
