Cut the Crap

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Cut the Crap is the sixth and last studio album by the Clash, released on 4 November 1985 on CBS. It was recorded in early 1985 at Weryton Studios near Munich, after Joe Strummer had fired guitarist Mick Jones and drummer Topper Headon. Manager Bernie Rhodes produced under the pseudonym Jose Unidos and fought with Strummer over the musical direction. Bassist Paul Simonon is not on the record: Norman Watt-Roy played the bass lines and a drum machine replaced drummer Pete Howard.

Rhodes chose synthetic drums and samples, which drew a lot of criticism. The press called the album one of the most disastrous records by a major artist. Strummer rejected it and disbanded the group within a few weeks. Even so critics praised his writing and singing, especially on This Is England, Dirty Punk and Three Card Trick.
