On 16 September 1977 the first Talking Heads album was released. The band played at CBGB but sounded very different from the Ramones: nervous, clever and danceable. Singer David Byrne and the others had met at art school. Bassist Tina Weymouth played bare, tight bass lines. In the 1980s they increasingly turned to funk and African rhythms.
Listening
Listening tip. Psycho Killer runs on a bare bass line built around the note A. Part of the lyrics is in French.
